Qué cool ser “malvada”

Las voces de Chloe Grace Moretz y Riz Ahmed hacen un tándem fantástico en esta comedia animada de fantasía con un toque de sci fi.
La peli es entretenida, colorida y excéntrica, aunque sin excesos. NIMONA ha sido diseñada para agradar al gran público pero también para que sus animadores puedan hacer gala de su artesanía.
La cinta está tan bien presentada formalmente —el estilo visual es exquisito— que uno puede dejar pasar los breves instantes flácidos o inconsistentes del argumento. ¿Por qué? Porque NIMONA tiene mucha onda, está en llamas de principio a fin.
Es una pena que, una vez más, tenemos que conformarnos con ver en streaming una película que claramente tiene atributos de pantalla grande. ¿Imaginan haber podido verla en una pantalla Macro o en una IMAX? Creo que nuestras pantallas domésticas sólo nos dejan apreciar una pequeña parte del detallado trabajo técnico del filme. Ni modo, qué hacer.
Filosófica e ideológicamente, NIMONA también es una película interesante y pertinente, todas sus decisiones temáticas en torno a la identidad, dinámica social o entendimiento de la otredad se sienten orgánicas. El filme también explora ideas sobre el miedo a lo que es diferente, la resistencia a la transformación y/o la disrupción del status quo.
Bien por esta peli que, es cierto, tiene argumentos para terminar incluida en el top 5 de las mejores cintas animadas del año.

Chloe Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed’s voices make a fantastic duo in this animated fantasy comedy with a zest of sci-fi. The film is entertaining, colorful, and eccentric. NIMONA has been designed to please a wide audience while allowing its animators to showcase their craftsmanship.
The film is so well-presented formally —the visual style is exquisite—that one can overlook the brief flaccid or inconsistent moments in the plot. Why? Because NIMONA has a lot of flair, it’s on fire from beginning to end.
It’s a shame that once again we have to settle for streaming a film that clearly has the qualities of a big-screen experience. Can you imagine being able to watch it on a Macro screen or in an IMAX? I think our home screens only allow us to appreciate a small part of the detailed technical work of these talented animators. And that’s a real shame.
Philosophically and ideologically, NIMONA is also an interesting and relevant film; all its thematic choices regarding identity, social dynamics, or understanding the otherness feel organic. The film also explores ideas about fear of what is different, resistance to transformation and/or disruption of the status quo.
Kudos to this film that, indeed, has arguments to be included in the top 5 of the best animated films of the year.
