Tom Cruise acepta la misión y la cumple con creces. Para él, no hay imposibles cuando asume el manto de Ethan Hunt, el protagonista de esta saga de acción y espionaje. La flamante MISIÓN: IMPOSIBLE — SENTENCIA MORTAL PARTE UNO es una película estridente, explosiva y atrapante, un dechado de acción maximalista que lo mantiene a uno entretenido por casi tres horas. Que sí, la séptima de la saga es divertida y frenética, sin fisuras.
Para no perder la costumbre, Cruise hace las veces de hombre multiusos: actúa, produce y ejecuta él mismo las más peligrosas escenas de acción, arriesgando el pellejo en pos del espectáculo. ¿Está loco? Sí, y pone su locura al servicio del espectador. Su salto en moto por el acantilado bien puede ser considerado ya como la más peligrosa escena de acción que un actor sin dobles haya filmado jamás.
Técnicamente, la película es todo lo que se puede esperar de una producción de su precio: lujosa, con efectos visuales de primera línea y un trabajo de cámara y sonido tamaño blockbuster, pero en “bien”.
Como cereza del pastel, SENTENCIA MORTAL PARTE UNO tiene un villano de actualidad. Justo en plena efervescencia conspirativa y recelosa frente a la irrupción de la inteligencia artificial en nuestras vidas, la cinta nos propone un mal intangible conocido como La Entidad, una IA en rebeldía, la cual pone en jaque a las grandes potencias. Thank God, ahí están Hunt y sus aliados para hacerle de antivirus humano y tratar de contener la amenaza.
Su mirada a la conversación sobre los pros y contras de las IA es unidimensional, es cierto, pero es fácil darse cuenta de que es así para que el recurso pueda estar al servicio del espectáculo. En todo caso, el etéreo “personaje” de La Entidad está bien dibujado en términos de guión, y sentimos desasosiego ante la presencia de esa pantalla con gráficos coquetos pero de intenciones ruines.
En fin, todo funciona en M:I 7 como producto comercial, todo. Es más, creo que es una de las pelis de la saga que más me han gustado. Está claro que el nivel de comunicación entre Tom y el diretor Christpher McQuarrie ha alcanzado un punto de consagración total. ¡Y apenas es media misión! Nos falta esperar por el desenlace en 2024.

The spectacular MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — DEADLY SENTENCE PART ONE is a loud, explosive, and gripping film, a showcase of maximalist action that keeps you entertained for nearly three hours. Yes, the seventh installment of the franchise is fun and frenetic. That’s what I call “big scope”!
As usual, Cruise wears multiple hats: he acts, produces, and performs his own stunts, risking his own skin for the sake of entertainment. Is he crazy? Yes, and he puts his madness in service of the audience. His cliff jump on a motorcycle could easily be considered the most dangerous action sequence ever filmed by an actor without stunt doubles.
Technically, the film delivers everything you would expect from a high-budget production: it’s lavish, luxurious with top-notch visual effects, and blockbuster-sized camera and sound work.
Plus, DEADLY SENTENCE PART ONE features a singular and timely “villain”. At a time of conspiracies and skepticism surrounding the rise of artificial intelligence in our lives, the film introduces an intangible evil known as The Entity, a rogue AI that threatens the world’s most powerful countries. Of course, Hunt and his allies are there to act as human antivirus and try to contain the threat.
The film’s exploration of the pros and cons of AI is one-dimensional, it’s true, but it’s easy to see that it serves the purpose of spectacle. Nevertheless, the ethereal “character” of The Entity is well-written in terms of the script, and we feel unease in the presence of that screen with stylish graphics yet sinister intentions.
In conclusion, everything works in M:I 7 as a commercial product, everything. In fact, I think it’s one of the films in the franchise that I’ve enjoyed the most. And it’s only halfway through the mission! We still have to wait for the conclusion in 2024.
